I agree this is of questionable veracity, but could you imagine if for example fb users had trouble following Trump? There would be a whole news cycle culminating in a congressional hearing. When people talk about the asymmetrical standards that conservatives are held to vs liberals in the media this is a prime example.
Yup. You need to project complete confidence until the moment you drop out, once you say “This is a hugely important decision, the hardest one I’ve ever had to make, so I’m taking my time” Boom you have lost control and it’s over.
However it appears the writing is on the wall at this point. The next question is, once he decides to no longer run should he resign? If he isn’t up for the job of running how does he instill confidence that he can remain president? Plus it hands the nomination to Kamala no question.
It did seem weird to me that Harris or any of the other democratic candidates campaigned on remote work. Seems like a smart pro-worker position to take that would directly impact a group she was trying to court: college educated professionals who skew male. Plus lower environmental impact, cheaper gas, more opportunities for working parents, etc.
The cynical reason I assume it wasn’t a talking point is because the 1% who directed the media conversation had a vested interest in return to pre-Covid status quo.
