So I was wondering if I should buy D4.
I am a huge d2 fan with hundreds of hours laddering doing mf runs and trading to get those juicy rune words, both on the original game and resurrected.
Like many D2/Poe players, I was and still am hugely disappointed by D3. And I really dislike what blizzard has become.
That being said, is Diablo 4 a good game? And more importantly, a good Diablo game?
I have learned to be very much anti Blizzard/Activision. I find some of their practises for nickel and diming customers abhorrent. In saying that though, I have some very long standing friends from my WoW days.
I used to love D2. I played it for years. D3 was ok until they brought in the resistance crap, then I never played it again. I played D4 on the free weekend and was not impressed. I have some mates that are playing it daily though, so there must be something there.
I am about 100 hours into Grim dawn instead of D4. I have to say I am loving it. I am also reading comments in the steam discussions of people saying they have dropped D4 to come back to GD.
This is a comment on one reviewer (Darthstrukt)
If you want an explanation of GD, add a comment and I will organise a tempt discord channel. I still consider myself very much a mediocre player. The game is very complex. I have also just made a spread sheet to make constellation easier to path. I cannot believe no one has done this already.
I do have grim dawn but I barely played it. I am going to give it a fair shot. Thanks for the detailed answer! From what I gather, D4 is probably not worth the money for me atm.
I must admit the £70 price tag stopped me dead. I still have mates who invest a lot of time in Blizzard software. Which makes me return for short spells. I played DF WoW exp for about 4 months and left with 9 months of gametime. I never learn.
I went back to GD to finally play the expansion DLCs, and followed that directly with D4. The whole time playing D4, I’ve been missing things about GD. I think GD is just better in almost every way except for graphics and some of the area concepts in D4 are also nicely varied. But GD gameplay, builds, itemization just all feels more fun.
That said, I’m still enjoying D4 for now, but not sure if i will create another class after i finish the campaign. I might hop straight to PoE2 instead (which i haven’t played since it was first released).
