That’s pretty dishonest summary of what I said. Nobody is selling anything here.
A contrarian isn’t one who always objects - that’s a confirmist of a different sort. A contrarian reasons independently, from the ground up, and resists pressure to conform.

There are valid reasons to restrict the visibility of your content to registered users.
I post nudes on a certain site, where I have the ability to choose who can see my pictures. The options are: everyone, friends, registered users, and VIP members (paid subscription). Nearly all of my pictures are set to be visible only to registered users, with the spicier ones restricted to VIP members. My reason for this has nothing to do with trying to force people to create an account, let alone pay for a subscription. I have no illusions about my content being completely safe from outsiders. I simply want to create a small amount of friction to prevent complete randoms from easily accessing my content when they have no personal investment in the site. I see putting myself out there as the price I pay for free access to everyone else’s profiles. If you want to see my pictures, I expect you to do the same. I’m taking the risk of potentially being recognized - I expect you to take that risk too.
I think the idea with carbon capture is mostly that you power it with the excess you’re getting from renewables. Finland for example has so much wind turbines that when it’s windy they produce much more energy than the country consumes. In moments like this it makes sense to put this energy into something like carbon capture or hydrogen production.
I don’t get how this is even worth writing an article about.
I must agree with the people saying you’re crazy for having that long commute. That’s over a month spent getting to and from work every year. Time is the most valuable asset in the entire world. By working we’re trading time for money but for the time spent commuting you’re not even getting paid. I would seriously consider trying to find an alternative solution to this.
Among all my friends, there are two clear common denominators between those who rent and those who own houses. The ones renting have office jobs and live in the capital, while the ones who own houses live in smaller cities or the countryside and work in manual labor.
I’m not saying correlation is causation, but it’s an interesting observation - and so far, it applies to 100% of my friends.
This doesn’t really have anything to do with facts, though. Names of people, objects and places change all the time.
Allright. Let’s revisit this in 6 months to see what happened - or didn’t.
I don’t honestly see a big issue with this. First of all: It’s called Gulf of America, not Gulf of USA. Considering it’s a gulf between south and north American continents it’s actually a more fitting name and in no way excludes Mexico.
And secondly, you can just move on with your life and keep calling it the Gulf of Mexico and everyone will perfectly understand what you mean. Nobody is holding a gun to your head and telling you to adopt the new name. Same applies to Twitter and Facebook too for example.
This is just one of the many reasons I have no interest in new cars. If it needs an internet connection then I’m not buying it. There are very few things I need my vehicle to be able to do and having access to internet isn’t one of them. I don’t even like that my truck has automatic wipers - I vastly prefer the traditional ones. Hell, I don’t even need the radio.
Many of them. Personally I’m just using my adblocker for that since I’m only using Lemmy on Firefox.
“Opposing fascism is more important than following posting guidelines”
But for real, I agree. Forcing US politics down the throat of everyone just builds resentment and makes people completely check out from it. I have content filters set to hide all of it. I’d like an option to show me the most important ones but that is not an option. It’s to either be firehosed by Trump and Musk articles or blocking it all. I choose the latter.
Just like major wars got more common under Biden. Doesn’t mean they’re in any way related though. Judging by the article, this sounds like a mechanical issue / pilot error.
The only company I’ve ever truly been invested in is the one I’m running myself. I’ve never seen working for someone else as anything more than trading my time for monetary compensation. The only reason I ever cared about a company’s success was to ensure I still had a place to earn a living from.
If it were a small business where I felt valued, then maybe it would be different - but not when we’re talking about a company that employs hundreds and the CEO doesn’t even know me by name.
Title says 40% of posts but the article says 40% of long-form posts yet doesn’t in any way specify what counts as a long-form post. My understanding is that the vast majority of Facebook posts are about the lenght of a tweet so I doubt that the title is even remotely accurate.
Edit: itt: brain, dead, and fascist apologist Facebook Earth, who just refuse to accept that their platform is one of the biggest advent of Nazi fascism in this country, and they are all 100% complicit.
This is some Facebook quality content you’re bringing to us here. It’s so great seeing this kind of posts on my feed first thing in the morning. Shows that it’s not just AI poisoning our social media platforms.
Yeah I don’t want to be that guy telling others to install an app to stay in contact with me. That would be extremely hypocritical on my part as I’m the one those people who refuses to install any apps people tells me to and it wouldn’t solve the issue anyway as then I’d still be using WhatsApp as well but now I just have one more additional app to communicate with certain people.
Nowdays doesn’t seem to matter where ever you go there’s always an app you need to install to do XY and Z. I don’t even have a Lemmy app as I only use it via browser. Same applies to YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Pixelfed, Reddit and so on.
