OK, that’s the first reasonable explanation I’ve come across. I wish Greg Linus didn’t reply in that kind of “angry” tone, because for some of us it’s not that obvious.

I’m almost going full circle now, I’m buying a camera and a Music player to use as separate devices from my phone. Not only smartphones are getting expensive as hell, but the usability is actually getting worse IMHO.
And why is it so fucking awful to setup an automated pipeline to deploy smartphone apps (Android and iOS)?
I’ve tried a lot of different DAWs already, Cubase/Nuendo, ProTools, Logic, Reaper, FL Studio, Bitwig, Ableton, Studio One, just to name a few. I’ve worked professionally only with Cubase, Pro Tools and Logic. I hated every minute I used Logic. Cubase being the best for composing and Pro Tools for recording and mixing. Studio One is very mature right now and that’s what I’m testing, since they now have a Linux beta. I tried Ardour before and unfortunately it doesn’t come even close to being as good as a “real” professional DAW. Even Logic was more pleasant to use than Ardour. I really wanted to like it, but it was not a very pleasant experience.
Free Download Manager was pretty rad. Being able to resume the download later was a life saver for dial-up connections. I remember that it took me almost a week to download Gunbound.
Any chance of this having a Plasma 6 Global Theme?
Windows Recall + Kernel level anti-cheat. How could it possibly go wrong, amirite?
Oh no, it’s not. As much as I hate Elon Musk, Alexandre de Moraes is a criminal. Some of the accounts he is trying to ban are specifically talking about some of his criminal activities. He unconstitutionally blocked Starlink some days ago because Elon Musk is part of the board. He ordered the blocking of ALL VPN services because he didn’t want people to access Twitter. That creates a TERRIBLE precedent, even if you agree that what he was doing in the first place was right. He already blocked Telegram and have been censoring everyone who says anything against him. As a Brazilian, it’s really conflicting to see all this going on. Elon Musk is an idiot and Moraes is a criminal.
His critics are actually terrible. The way he criticizes makes him look like a jerk and he doesn’t give any constructive feedback. I mean, if the COSMIC team was not doing anything to improve the product and just riding with the positive wave of reviews, I could almost agree with him, but that’s not what’s happening at all. WTF is he going on about? Did something happen that we don’t know about?
I hope “normal people” start exploiting that decision too. Training AI to consume stuff from big corporations and using the result to create open source/copyright free stuff from copyrighted works.
This is not about the App Store service’s quality, this is about option. They could charge 50% for all I care, if we had the option to buy iOS apps from another store other than Apple’s.
I don’t know exactly about Woodpecker CI because I haven’t used it very much, but GitHub Actions is Beta software. Has A LOT of bugs, no QoL features, spaghetti codebase, the Runners are AWFUL to selfhost… and I could go on.
And it would be even more useful with Windows than SteamOS, Windows only has the desktop mode.
Well said! The people behind the Steam Deck are passionate about gaming and making a device they would use.
That’s a good point! Apple, Samsung and others have been destroying the consumer electronics space for years.
I agree. First we need to solve the Linux compatibility issues, then we can start thinking about new CPU architectures. It would have been too much to deal with at the same time.
Yep. I mean, better hardware specs are a really good thing, but that alone does not make me want to buy a device.
Me too :) I’m gaming exclusively on Linux for more than 5 years now. The Steam Deck was a blessing for this already amazing Linux gaming ecosystem, so I had to buy one (actually two now, I really wanted the OLED version 😁)
It’s really funny to see how out of touch those companies are with the portable consoles. They clearly don’t understand what makes the Steam Deck a good console. They focus on the hardware specs and that’s it, minimal work on the software side (ROG Ally is at least trying). Valve nailed it with the Steam Deck in various aspects: hardware is good, CAD files are available so it’s highly customizable, but the cherry on top is the software integration, it is amazing and it’s always improving. IMHO software is the real reason for Deck’s success (OS, Proton, compatibility badges, etc).
Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three!
I don’t use Windows anymore. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not one of those “Linux purists”, if other people wanna use Windows, go ahead. But I’m not using it. I swear to god, if it becomes mandatory to use Windows at my company, I’m leaving the next day.
