Summary

Marcy Rheintgen, a 20-year-old transgender college student, was arrested at the Florida State Capitol after intentionally entering a women’s restroom in protest of the state’s transgender bathroom law.

Civil rights lawyers say it is the first known arrest under such laws in any U.S. state.

Rheintgen faces a misdemeanor trespassing charge and could face up to 60 days in jail.

Florida is one of only two states to criminalize such acts.

In extreme times like these, bravery and suicidal go hand in hand. She wanted to make a point and she did, despite knowing what’s going to happen. She was not interested in saving her ass, even though she could do it - she chose not to and deserves respect. Some people feel it’s worth it to risk and perhaps even lose their lives for the chance the others will be better off for it. It’s a completely different level of bravery than most people are capable of. Sometimes others get offended by that, because they don’t understand it or feel like it sets a moral standard they cannot fulfill. The truth is, not everyone has to be this way. But let’s at least appreciate it.
