My wife and I are 47 & 50, and were fortunate enough to retire early due to the unfortunate death of both of her parents over the last few years. We have never once regretted our decision to not have kids. If we had, we would have created the same traumas that were created in us, instead we have had the time to heal them.

We would have preferred to still have her parents around, as we still would have been able to retire earlier than most. But, had we had children, we wouldn’t have been able to retire with the same inheritance.

What’s your problem? If you had a financial windfall that meant you could retire, are you saying you wouldn’t?

No, I’m 50 (though I retired at 48). I saw an article over 20 years ago about how much of a deficit people had for retirement. The same week I saw how much it took to raise kids. That cost to raise kids * amount of average kids per household in the US = the amount of deficit needed for retirement. Seemed pretty basic.
